THE TOURETTE SYNDROME WRITER'S PAGE

A message from Andrew K. Stone

As many of you know, I have Tourette's Syndrome (TS), a neurological condition characterized by motor and vocal tics. The severity of these tics varies greatly in each person with Tourette, making the disorder difficult to treat and even diagnose. For many years, little was know about TS; however, the media has recently been helping to focus the public eye on Tourette's Syndrome. This has proven very beneficial as it has raised the awareness of TS in our families, classrooms and society at large. Individuals with TS, such as major sports figures and prominent musicians have also helped to bring the condition into the spotlight while serving as role models for the rest of us.

While attending the Tourette Syndrome Association's National Conference in November, I had the chance to meet a lot of talented people with TS. As I signed copies of my novel All Flowers Die, many people told me that they have been writing or would like to write. So, I decided to give them the chance to put their money where their mouth -- or pen -- is!

This is YOUR section of the So There Books web site. I'd like to see your work -- in fact, I'd like the whole world to see it. Those of you who told me about your writing -- journals, short stories, memoirs and poetry -- also told me how difficult it is getting your work seen. Well, here's your chance. If you have Tourette Syndrome and would like to post your work here, just send it to me. It doesn't have to be about Tourette; the whole idea is to build a growing network of writers with TS who can share and learn from each other. I'll be participating in this too, and you can view a sample of my work here.

Below, you'll find information on how to submit your work. Remember, all writing must be your original writing, and you own the all the rights to it. So, send me your stuff. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm happy to report that, in a very short time, the Tourette Syndome Writer's Page has gotten off to a great start, with submissions from around the world.

To submit your writing: please email your work as a TEXT or WORD Document. As material begins to come in, I'll post it and then begin to catalog it. Please include any contact information you wish to appear with your work -- name, your web site or email.
